I have rarely seen elevator skill competitions in countries. I will take China as an example. China holds several elevator skill competitions every year. I will tell you about three of them (data taken for 2020).

The “Intelligent Elevator Maintenance Technology” professional skills competition is supported by the CEA Association, the China Employment Center, and the China Machinery Industry Union. The stated goal of the competition is to improve the quality of elevator workers. In 2020, the competition was held for the tenth time: 32 participants took part in five tests, competing with each other in the speed of troubleshooting the main components of the elevator. In the two-hour exam, in addition to performing typical troubleshooting actions, participants had to fully record the analysis process and find a solution.

The “Elevator Installation and Maintenance Skill Competition” has been held annually since 2014. The competition consists of two parts: a theoretical knowledge competition (accounting for 30% of the total points) and a skills competition. In 2020, more than 60 participants from various companies engaged in the production, installation, repair and maintenance of elevators took part in the competition.

The Xizi Elevator Cup competition belongs to the industrial design category. The competition is held in two nominations: development of elevator cabin design and creation of elevator human-machine interface design (cabin control panel and lobby call unit).
