China’s elevator industry

China’s elevator industry

To get a more detailed picture of the development of China’s elevator industry over the past 40 years, let’s take a look at Huzhou, a city in Zhejiang Province.

In the early 1980s, China’s elevator market demand was small and mainly concerned freight elevators. In 1984, Huzhou Xinlian Elevator Factory was founded in Huzhou, followed by Huzhou Hengda Elevator Factory in 1987. Three years later, the number of elevator companies in Huzhou had increased from two to four. According to statistics from the China Elevator Association, the country’s total elevator output in 1990 was 10,171 units, while the annual output of Huzhou elevator companies was just over 100 units.

The 1990s saw China’s opening-up reform and a boom in industrial and commercial construction. The demand for elevators in the country has grown significantly: according to statistics from the CEA, by 2000, the total output of elevators in the country had risen to 37,500 units, and the number of elevator manufacturing enterprises in Huzhou had increased from four to eleven.

In the 21st century, the housing reform stimulated the construction of commercial housing. The real estate industry suddenly began to develop rapidly. In a short time, the demand structure changed from freight elevators to passenger elevators. A real breakthrough in elevator production occurred. According to statistics from the China Elevator Association, from 2001 to 2010, the total output of elevators in the country grew by an average of 26% per year. By 2010, the total output of elevators in the country had reached 365,000 units.

For many years, elevators have been used as a key supporting industry in Nanxun District. In 2011, the Nanxun District Committee established an elevator industry cluster in the economic development zone, aiming to continuously develop the elevator industry. Well-known leading companies such as Giant, Vaux, Hengda, Yida and Senhe have appeared successively.

At present, the intelligent elevator industrial park covers an area of 16 square kilometers. When you visit Nanxun Elevator Industrial Park, you will come to the most densely populated group of elevator test towers in the world. The highest test tower of Julong Elevator Company is 188 meters high.

In the 40 years of development, Huzhou has come a long way from simple freight elevators to modern high-end elevators. From here, elevators are supplied to all 34 provinces of China, as well as Europe, America, Southeast Asia and other parts of the five continents of the world.
